Being in a small town doesn't leave many options for going out. The place to be seen was a restaurant/bar off one of the lakes. They had a DJ on the weekends and in the summertime the city was full of vacationers, it was always fun to meet out-of-towners. Me and my friends would go, have a few drinks, and dance our butts off. When the bar closed at 1am it was the mission to find an after party. The best ones happened in the million dollar vacation homes off the lake.
One night, my friend Sara and I went out looking hot, as usual, searching for boys...as usual. Walking into the club we could separate the locals from the out-of-towners with a quick walk-through from the bar to the dance floor. It was always easier for Sara to meet boys (especially since I was designated driver that night and didn't have the help of alcohol) and it wasn't long before she introduced me to Josh, Brett, and Tony. They were up for the weekend from Minneapolis and staying in Josh's parent's cabin. They spent the night buying rounds of shots and we all took over the dance floor. It was suddenly last call and time to decide if the night would continue or not. The boys had driven over in a boat (yes, the club had boat parking), Sara and I had gotten there in my car. The boys didn't want to leave the boat so Sara, Josh, and Brett fired it up and took off across the lake. Tony rode with me to help me find their cabin.
I was glad to be riding with Tony, I thought Josh and Brett were a little too cocky and overwhelming. Tony was mellow and we had a pretty decent conversation at the club since he wasn't binging on tequila and Miller Lite like his friends. We got back to the cabin and he offered me a beer. I wasn't planning on driving home that night, so I agreed. He grabbed one for himself and we walked out to the dock to wait for the others to arrive. It was quite windy and I started to shiver. Tony stood up and pulled his sweatshirt off over his head, I couldn't help but drool a little when I saw his chiseled abs. He offered it to me. As I pulled it on over my head I took in a deep breath of cologne, it smelled of musk and fresh rain. Even though it was chilly, Tony took off his shoes and stuck his feet in the dark water. I pulled off my heels and joined him. We talked about college, family, plans for the rest of the summer. Tony joked about me still shivering and wrapped his arm around me. I turned and kissed him on the cheek. He put his hand on my face and pulled me in, his lips met mine and the shivers turned into butterflies. I had only known Tony for a few hours, but we had a connection. The butterflies calmed when I heard a boat engine. We both looked into the darkness and saw a small light coming toward us.
As Sara, Josh, and Brett got closer we could heard the boat radio and them laughing and teasing each other. Tony stood up to help dock the boat. He tied it up and we all decided hang out on the boat and listen to music. I had already finished the beer Tony gave me so I grabbed another one from the cooler on the boat and found a comfortable spot. Tony grabbed a beer, but sat on the other side of the boat. It didn't work, Josh and Brett knew that something happened between us and started to tease Tony. Sara grabbed my arm and asked me to show her where the bathroom was.
Tony hadn't shown me where the bathroom was when we first arrived, so after a complete search of the cabin Sara and I found it. We locked the door behind us and Sara asked me what happened between me and Tony. I told her that we only kissed, but I liked him. "Chye, Josh told me he's gay" is all she had to say for the butterflies to completely stop and my heart to jump into my throat. I didn't want to make it a big deal so when we left the bathroom I decided to forget about what had happened and try to have fun.
Before Sara and I could leave the cabin, the boys decided to join us inside. Josh and Brett were still giving Tony a hard time and started in on me. "I can't believe you couldn't tell he's gay!" "I feel bad that he didn't tell you." "You kissed him!!!" Tony stayed quiet the entire time. I wasn't mad at him, but really wished that he would defend me or at least defend himself. I wasn't having a good time,so it was time to go. Before we left, Tony took me aside and told me that he was gay and that he was sorry if he hurt me. I appreciated his honesty. We all exchanged phone numbers and made plans for the following weekend. Neither Sara nor I heard from the boys again and forgot about them by the end of the summer.
I had almost forgotten about this experience until I started writing this blog. It doesn't really have anything to do with why/how I became a fag hag, but I felt it was a good story to tell any way. It was a situation that helped me improve my gay-dar. :)
